About the Perfumer
"Finding Forbidden Love" is masterfully perfumed by independent perfumer Paul Kiler. Paul is a well known and very well respected award-winning perfumer within the industry, winning 19 awards within his first 10 months of business, as well as the prestigious Aftel Award for handmade perfume at the 2019 Art and Olfaction Awards.
A few years before he started learning perfumery, the popular trend in men's perfumes during the 1990's was men's "sport" fragrances. All of these "sport" fragrances gave Paul a headache, so he set out to create his own scent in rebellion to this popular trend; one that he could enjoy and not have an adverse reaction to, and that was a full and orchestral composition with ingredients he enjoyed. Self-taught over the next few years, Paul made incredible strides within the industry, exceeding in his craft as he honed his skill.
With almost 20 years of experience, he is most notably known for his work with Schiff bases and also has his own line of fragrances under his brand PK Perfumes, and as well, is the perfumer for the 2014 released Zoologist Panda and Zoologist Rhinoceros perfumes.
It is Paul's incredible work with Schiff bases and captive molecules that attracted us to him; one of which is featured in "Finding Forbidden Love"! We could not be more proud to have him as the nose for our third fragrant release!
Perfumer's Statement
"When Chris and I interacted about a second sort of similar scent to The Forbidden Temple, we talked about how to make it it’s own, but be in the same family. I suggested to change the Apricot of The Forbidden Temple, to a Peach in Finding Forbidden Love. Chris had evaluated all of my different tea bases, and suggested that we use the White Tea base this time to go with the Peach. I heartily agreed.
It’s also dear to me that my oldest son in College aided and gave me input on which peach to try to use in Forbidden Love. We had recently come home from a family trip to Tokyo and Kyoto over Christmas, and my Son recommended to try to emulate the white peach of drinks found in Japan and other Asian countries. My wife is Indonesian, and our family has interests and affinities to several parts of Asia with its Foods, Cultures, Arts, and Design.
For The Forbidden Temple, my Apricot base was ready to go before I made the scent, but I had not yet made a Peach base apropos for this scent. I started to make a lot of peachy ideas, trying different approaches and ideas around “Peach”. I was trying to learn what I needed to make a Peach scent profile, and also how to make it a “White Peach” as well. I was happy when I arrived at Peach version #8, with a white peach that would intermingle well with the rest of the scent. White Tea as a note is really easy to run over in a perfume, so the white peach had to be suitably delicate, fruity, but strong and nuanced enough to work together in harmony.
White Tea has an affinity to be slightly rosy, and floral, so the Rose note and the lightened wood note of Cypress wood both blend beautifully with the White Tea and White Peach.
The Incense portion was modified to remove the smoky parts and some of the Frankincense of The Forbidden Temple, and add back in Opoponax and Labdanum, which are common to other incense styles, and complimented the new scent perfectly.
Last, the base was changed to be more fruity with Raspberry and Davana, with a very lightly sweet touch of honey, while keeping the soft and beautiful sandalwood note.
It’s really a lovely fragrance… isn’t it?"

"Finding Forbidden Love wasn't even planned...
...as a fragrance that I wanted to release. What happened was during the very beginning stages of the creation of "The Forbidden Temple", Paul Kiler sent me out a few different trial formulas for me to test out. These trial formulas were the same formula, but with different types of tea being used within them for me to test and see which one I liked best. Once that was nailed down we could then proceed further with working on that specific type of tea fragrance.
Among those original trial formulas was one using black tea, one using green tea, one using a mix of green and black teas, and one with the use of white tea. After smelling them and testing them out, there was one that was a clear winner for what I was looking for, and that was the version that had the mix of black and green teas. HOWEVER, my girlfriend and I ALSO equally fell in love with the white tea version.
This white tea version made the formula undoubtedly feminine, but also COMPLETELY changed how the whole perfume came across and it made the formula take on a whole new smell! We couldn't believe how this one different tea seemingly changed how the whole formula came across... it was like a completely different fragrance! The decision was super tough and we couldn't decide what direction we now wanted to go with for the release. I absolutely loved the green and black mix of teas for "The Forbidden Temple" as something that I would wear, and my girlfriend absolutely loved the white tea version as one that she would wear.
So after much debate, we ultimately decided on getting BOTH! So we spoke with Paul Kiler, and the decision was made to come out with a second perfume using this white tea that he had, almost like a flanker to "The Forbidden Temple", but with some changes so that "Finding Forbidden Love" would still have its own identity. So immediately following the original release of "The Forbidden Temple", Paul got to work creating "Finding Forbidden Love", and we got to work creating the artwork for this unexpected release! This is the preliminary sketch I made for the label using the same pagoda imagery used for the label of "The Forbidden Temple". We could not be happier with how this perfume turned out, and we know you will be as in love with it as we are! Its HIGHLY unique, and absolutely gorgeous!"
